A fun goof on one of my favorite collections - Frosted Dino Circus. This one made just for the Christmas holidays. A bright green traded out for pink and blue. I stuck with yellows and greens for the sprinkles so as not to detract from the little red Rudolph noses. I thought this design would get a little more traction than it has...but it's really about exposure, which is something I need to work on. Perhaps a small collection of clothing for the holidays next year would help. We'll see!
I sorta thought I nailed Chintz for this Spoonflower Design Challenge. Alas, the people have spoken and they said 302nd place (out of 500). This was, however, excellent practice for working in layers in Procreate. I did layer-by-layer "painting" dark to light for each rose and leaf. I thought it worked quite nicely. It has a paint by numbers vibe, yet feels very grandma. Which is totally what i was going for. I worked on this design during Thanksgiving break in Massachusetts. The challenge was to use jewel tone colors. I went for a very literal interpretation, creating actual jewels. I thought colorful rings would be fun. Lots of pink and lots of sparkle! I really should make a little girls dress out of this. In the Spoonflower Design Challenge I entered, I placed 376/617. Obviously I still haven't worked out the most marketable designs. At the end of the day, all these designs are really about learning and expanding on the process. It's just a bonus that if a design turns out cute, I can turn it into something. Update: Another Thanksgiving holiday has come and gone. Little did I know that that trip to MA would be the last time we could travel for a while.
This one features as a mess of tapes and paint splatter in a 4-color palette. The colors feel now, the subject is so 80s. Love that!
A companion piece to Eggy Weggs. I’m hoping to have a complete collection (soon!) of favorite foods that pair well with circles. Got any ideas out there? It’s OK. I’ll come up with some on my own. This fun print is available by the yard in your choice of fabrics. Do you need avocado pants? We both know the answer.
My first full collection of fabrics (or whatever!) in the form of frosting, waxy cookies, dinos, and sprinkles. It’s a mix of the iconic and the extinct. This fabric collection has gone a long way to make a great selection of baby and kid clothing and accessories. I’ve made a custom pair of overalls, overall shorts, overall dresses with bloomers contrasting fabric, a mixed fabric dress, hair bows, bibs, bandanas, and taggie squares. Oh…AND…face masks. Because that’s the world we live in now. I also managed to sell (not much, but some and it’s a start) fabric in the sprinkle and blue/white dino fabric. Hoo-rah. Baby and kid items made from this fabric may be purchased in the Keats Yeats Etsy shop.
Frosted Dino Circus fabric is available by the yard at Spoonflower. I came up with this rendering of some very happy herbivores for a Spoonflower Design challenge with a dinosaur theme. I personally love the colors and little smiling faces, but the public did not agree. I came in at approximately 1 millionth. No matter…I carry on. See what's available in the Keats Yeats Etsy shop.
Fabric is available for purchase by the yard at Spoonflower. Cute puppies made of simple shapes in four color ways. Hooray! Printed as fabric they would be great for children’s items. In fact, my Origami Puppers (in yellow!) was the first custom printed fabric I ordered "en mass" (it's all relative, right?) specifically for this reason. I went with the yellow/doggy combo because it's gender (and everything) neutral and I wanted to make a number of items for my Etsy shop that would work for any kid. There are a number of fun things for the little guys in the Keats Yeats Etsy shop.
Also available as fabric at Spoonflower. The first in a collection of food prints that feature my son’s favorite food paired with circles. WOWEE! Circles. Can you even…just? Here are eggs. I don’t much care to be around eggs, but I also don’t like having snot wiped on my work shirts, and that’s something that happens on the regular too. A trend! Some items are available in the Keats Yeats Etsy shop.
Fabric is available for purchase at Spoonflower. Well, I participated (again) in a design challenge and this time did my best ever, making it to the top 75. Just barely. I came in at 73. While I’m excited about that (my goal now is to break the top 50), I’m also, like, what? This particular design was simple, unexciting, not very inspired, and kind of bland…yet got me my most “likes” so far. The challenge this time around was to design a relaxing and neutral duvet cover. I admittedly put less effort into this one than any other fabric I have come up with in the past. Mostly I just wanted to play around with paint brush tools. And I only wanted to do that after investing a ton of time into trying to figure out a repeating herringbone pattern that just did not work out. So, is this is this a lesson learned for me? Am I wasting too much time on actual drawings that aren’t as good as splotches of paint? Sigh. No secret here: I have not idea what I’m doing. I’ll just keep on anyway.
